Where can I find Weta Cave?

The home of film-making magic is based in Miramar, around a 15-20 minute drive from Wellington city centre. There is free (but limited) on-street parking, or you can catch the 18e bus to stop 6240 on Darlington road, only a short walk to the workshop.

Weta Workshop is a five-time Academy Award winning hub for creative design and practical effects. They’ve produced special effects and props for blockbuster films like Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, Avatar and King Kong! At the workshop you’ll find incredible artefacts and props from the world of film, from creatures and costumes to weapons and miniatures.

Join one of their guided tours to get up close with fantastic physical effects and iconic props with a knowledgeable guide. Learn the fascinating process behind the effects used for their hit films and TV shows and watch the artists do their magic on the tour stage. Don’t forget to explore the Weta Cave retail store to get your hands on some amazing collectables, books and more that you won’t find anywhere else, and have a look at their mini-museum.
