‘Another Place’ Art Installation by Antony Gormley

‘Another Place’ by Anthony Gormley is an iconic staple of the Merseyside coastline and a must-see for any tourists visiting the area. This installation has been featured in various cities across the world (De Panne in Belgium, Cuxhaven in Germany, and Stavanger in Norway), but it has officially made its home on Crosby Beach.

Where can I find 'Another Place'?

'Another Place is located on Crosby Beach, it's about 16 minutes from Liverpool city centre via train. Mersey rail has services from Liverpool Central and Moorfields stations in the city centre to Blundellsands and Crosby station. Merseyrail also has a handy journey planner that could be useful.

Exactly 100 cast-iron life-sized statues silently stand guard across three kilometres of shore, looking out across the sea. The figures are modelled after Gormley himself, made from 17 body casts with each one weighing a whopping 650 kilos. The idea behind ‘Another Place’ was to capture the juxtaposition between the stationary world and the changeable one, a still body against the ever-shifting earth and sea. It is a truly unique sight, seeing all the statues lined up along the beach – it’s not one to miss!

  • Always open
  • Entry is free
  • The installation is on a beach, so please be aware of soft sand/mud and changing tides
