No trip to Auckland would be complete without visiting the internationally renowned Auckland museum! Gain a deep understanding of this fascinating island, it’s people and it’s history with collections and exhibitions that explore Maori culture and more.

Where can I find Auckland Museum?

You'll find Auckland museum in the scenic Auckland domain park, in central Auckland. It's a 30 minute walk or 10 minute drive from the city centre. Alternatively, take the 781 bus from Mission Bay or the subway to Parnell station via Western and Southern lines, a 5 minute walk to the museum.

Auckland was one of New Zealand’s first museums, housed in a historical building within a beautiful park looking over the harbour. You’ll discover a different story on each one of the three floors of the museum, from ancient history, local tradition to World Wars. Explore Stories of Auckland, which chronicles the cities past, captures the present and looks to the future. Uncover the largest and most significant collection of Maori treasures in the world at the Maori galleries, the indigenous people of New Zealand. Take a look at what shaped New Zealand’s environment in the natural history gallery, or what shaped their identity in the stories of their involvement in wars.

Don’t miss their fantastic programme of exhibitions, from ancient civilisations, absorbing photography displays to timeless love letters. Cap off your visit with delicious food and drink from their 3 different dining outlets, or head to the Hokohoko store, with an extensive range of artworks, books and more from local makers and artists.
