What better place to channel your inner Viking than the city that hosts the largest archaeological Viking collection in the UK? Whether you’re new to throwing axes and want some stress release after a long week of work, or you’re a veteran axe juggler and want to hone your skills against your friends, The Hilt is waiting for you.

Where can I go axe throwing in York?

Sail down to York on your Viking longship, as The Hilt is here for all your axe-throwing needs.

For the uninitiated, don’t fear. There are 20-minute training sessions to help get players into the ‘swing’ of things (pun very much intended). Once you’ve got to grips with your new axe-friend, compete against your friends – whoever gets the most points will be named Viking! or Viqueen! The Hilt is one of the most highly rated activity venues across York – they are host not only to an axe-throwing centre but also a delicious restaurant, appropriately named ‘Odin’s Plate’, at the front of the building.

  • Sessions cost £25 per person.
  • Advanced booking is recommended, but walk-ins are also accepted
  • Sessions will usually last 1hr and 15 mins, including training time.
  • Their recommended group size is 2-12, but larger groups can also be accommodated provided you contact them in advance.
