Did you know some 250,000 species of flowering plants depend on bees for pollination? Why not add an introduction to the beekeeping experience to your Stack!

Why try beekeeping in Windsor?

Not only are bees and the process behind keeping them fascinating, but they are also an incredibly important part of the world's ecosystem, and their decline in recent years makes learning about them all the more important. Oakdale Bees run fun and factual experience days where you can learn new skills and greater insights into everything bee-related.

Oakdale Bees will teach you all about bees in a relaxing 4 hour experience day, set in a beautiful wild meadow. Learn more about bees, their lifespan, how the hives work, the role of the queen bee and how you individually can do your bit to help their (and our) survival. You will also learn more about yummy honey such as creative ways to use it as an alternative to refined sugars and how we can banish cling film from our kitchen by making your own beeswax food storage wrap cloths.

Bees - did you know?

Before you go on your beekeeping experience, here are some facts about these fuzzy little insects:

  • They have 5 eyes! Plenty of eyes to catch all those plants they’ll be pollinating.
  • They fly at speeds of up to 20 miles per hour.
  • The queen bee can lay up to 2000 eggs per day!
  • Bees have been around for 30 million years, far longer than humans and any of our ancestors.
  • An average beehive may hold up to 50,000 bees!

Get stuck in and choose to dress in an actual bee suit and help with inspections of the bees and their honey! There will be an interval part to each session where you will be offered a glass of wine or soft drink and a tasty sharing platter of charcuterie, cheeses, bread and of course, honey! Also as part of the experience, any products you make you will take home with you. So why not add this to your Stack, we know you will have a bee-utiful experience!
