Eric Ravilious: Drawn To War

8 - 11 August, 2022
ERIC RAVILIOUS: DRAWN TO WAR is a true story. Eric Ravilious is as compelling and enigmatic as his art. Set against the dramatic wartime locations that inspire him, Margy Kinmonth’s film brings to life this brilliant but still grossly undervalued British artist. Caught in the crossfire of war 80 years ago, Ravilious’s legacy largely sank without trace, until now. Made with the blessing of the Ravilious Estate, this first full length feature documentary about Ravilious unfolds in his own words, through previously unseen private correspondence and rare archive film. Shot entirely on location in the UK, Portugal and Ireland, the film features Ai Weiwei, Alan Bennett, Grayson Perry, Robert Macfarlane with Freddie Fox, Tamsin Greig and many more.

Where The Crawdads SingOlivia Newman | USA | 2022 | 130m | 15Mystery drama based on the novel by Delia Owens about Kya, an abandoned girl who raised herself to adulthood in the dangerous marshlands of North Carolina. For years, rumours of the 'Marsh Girl' haunted Barkley Cove, isolating the sharp and resilient Kya from her community. Drawn to two young men from town, Kya opens herself to a new and startling world; but when one of them is found dead, she is immediately cast by the community as the main suspect. As the case unfolds, the verdict as to what actually happened becomes increasingly unclear, threatening to reveal the many secrets that lay within the marsh.

8 - 11 August, 2022
Joy (Colman) and Mully (Reid) are two lovable rogues. Joy is angry – she’s got a baby and motherhood does not come naturally to her; she feels she’s tossed her own dreams aside to give a screeching monster unconditional love. And, if she’s honest to herself, when she looks in the mirror she sees the shadow of her own neglectful mother. Twelve-year-old Mully also has a mum-shaped void in his life, as well as a conman dad. But Mully’s got balls; he knicks his dad’s stash of cash and steals a taxi in a bid for freedom. But, there’s an almighty yell from the back seat. It’s Joy – hungover, freaking out, and holding a baby! As they tear up the road on their riotous misadventure, we follow these roguish ‘outlaws’ in search of their dreams, in this feel-good, foul-mouthed fairy-tale.

There's A Tiger In The Garden

14 - 14 August, 2022
Bored at home with nothing to do, Nora is sent out to play in the garden in search of a tiger. Have your imaginations at the ready as our story unfolds and we see Nora's world grow around her. A new theatrical adaptation of Lizzy Stewart's Waterstones Children's Book Prize winning book. For family audiences. Age range 3 -103. Brighton based Flock Theatre Makers share a new piece of music theatre to bring Nora's story to young audiences on the Sussex coast. Using puppetry, imaginative design and music - audiences are invited to join Nora as she discovers dragonflies as big as her head, plants that can eat you (and your toy giraffe) whole, a polar bear that likes fishing and maybe, just possibly, a tiger in the garden. Exploring the power of the imagination, we invite families to follow Nora as she discovers the wonders lurking beneath the hydrangeas and hidden beyond the shrubbery. Come and listen, play, engage and enjoy the brilliance of this story brought to life for the first time. Working closely with Lizzy Stewart, this is the first time the book will be presented as a piece of live theatre by this new, local company. A piece created for parks and gardens by Flock Theatre Makers. Created for children aged 3+ (babes in arms welcome) Running Time: 45mins plus a chance to meet the cast and puppets afterwards Please note: We hope to create a relaxed environment for all performances and welcome SEND families. A Pay What You Can option is available to help families with affordability barriers. Should tickets sell out on a date you were hoping to attend, do drop us a line as a third performance time is possible should demand dictate. We are four local parents/theatremakers who wanted to create something special after a challenging 18 months for the arts and families. We really value your support.

Mo' Better Blues

17 - 17 August, 2022
Exuberantly shot, enterprisingly designed and evocatively scored, Lee's jazz flick scores on the incidentals but neglects the basics with a central storyline that moves at a snail's pace and was never that interesting in the first place. Denzel Washington is the self-absorbed trumpet star Bleek Gilliam, involved with both teacher Joie Lee and aspiring singer Williams while failing to notice manager Spike's gambling habit and the discord in his band. Worth seeing all the same, but patience is required.

The Wolfhounds & Fractured
