Calling all animal lovers! Come and meet the beautiful otters and butterflies at the Dartmoor sanctuary in Devon. This is the perfect family-friendly activity whatever the weather. Immerse yourself in the tropical rainforest where you can meet and learn all about the beautiful butterflies and meet the three different breeds of otters; the native British otter, the Asian short-clawed otter and the large North American river otters- they are all excited to meet you!

Where can I find the Otter and Butterfly Sanctuary?

The sanctuary is situated just outside the southern border of Dartmoor National park. Between Exeter and Plymouth easily reached just off the A38.

Run by a small dedicated team, they aim to make your visit educational and fun.  You will learn about endangered species and the important conservation work they do to help reintroduce otters into the wild. The sanctuary holds 3 daily feeding otter tours where you will be taken on a tour of the 5 otter enclosures. The keepers are on hand at all times to explain all about the otters- some are here for breeding, some for retirement, some just for fun and some because they are unsuitable to return to the wild.
