Doune Castle

If you’re a fan of classic TV or just fascinating Scottish history, Doune Castle has to be on your Stack! A film location for Monty Python, Outlander and even Game of Thrones, this medieval castle is well worth a visit and not just for the excellent audio tours. Wander around the real-life Winterfell with audio tours voiced by none other than Monty Python’s Terry Jones and Outlander’s Sam Heughan. They’ll teach you all about the castle’s history as well as the antics on the set of Monty Python and the Holy Grail and the filming of Outlander. If you’re looking for a fun and fascinating way to spend the afternoon in Stirling, this is a great choice!

Why visit Doune Castle?

While the castle has a long history as a stronghold dating back to Roman times, its more extravagant features are all thanks to Scotland's famous 'uncrowned king': Robert Stewart 1st Duke of Albany, who enjoyed hosting large parties and used this castle as a way to demonstrate his power and wealth through sparing no expense in its improvements. Visitors today are still in awe of its grandeur despite its ruined state. So come along and imagine for yourself what it must have been like to walk these halls in their heyday.
