Where can I find the Brook Waimarama Sanctuary?

The Brook Waimarama Sanctuary can be found just west of Nelson and can be reached by the NBus route 4 which runs 6 days a week.

The Broom Waimarama Sanctuary hosts a large network of well-signposted walking trails! The loop trail is ideal for those visitors who are looking for a more relaxed and gentle experience and is even suitable for mobility scooters and wheelchairs. For those looking for a little more adventurous trail, Carter’s Trail and Valley Trail feature a number of different river crossings!

During the time of your visit, it is highly recommended to take a moment along the way to stop and listen out for the calls and chirps of a large number of bird species at the sanctuary. There is no shortage of different bird species in the sanctuary meaning there is plenty to look out for! Some of these species include Fantails, Moreporks, Bellbirds, Tomtits, Grey Warblers, Wood Pigeons, Silvereyes, and the newest additions to the sanctuary, South Island Saddlebacks and Orange Fronted Parakeets!
