Are you a movie buff looking for a change of scenery? Then we have just the Stack for you! The Ultimate Picture Palace is an independent cinema in Oxford. It is Oxford’s only surviving independent cinema, showing a mixture of independent, mainstream, foreign language, and classic films and is a super unique spot for your viewing pleasures. With the cinema scene these days feeling very samey with the dominance of big chains, it’s a nice change to visit a cinema with a bit more character and individualism as the Ultimate Picture Palace has.
This retro venue is a cosy 100-seater screen and there is also disabled access at this cinema so all are welcome. Films are running twice/three times a day and are often slightly behind the current releases, giving you ample opportunity to catch up on hits you may have missed or rewatch a fan favourite again on the big screen. There’s a great variety of films shown with large British features and even foreign, art-house gems. Oxford-wide film enthusiasts flock to this fantastic establishment to appreciate the art of film. The Ultimate Picture Palace is also a great addition to Oxford’s sense of community.
With regular screenings of locally made short films and features being shown here, the community is brought together. There are also often one-off documentary screenings which are regularly accompanied by Q&As with local academics or specialists. Furthermore, this cinema also has Dementia Friendly showings to better accommodate everyone within the community.
