Kirkcaldy Galleries in Fife

Kirkcaldy Galleries first opened its doors in 2013 when Fife council went ahead with a huge £2.5 million refurbishment. Visitors will be spoilt for choice – the centre has many interesting things on-site, like a library, a museum, an art gallery, local & family history room, a café, a gift shop and and space for children to play! All in the one place, with no admission fee.

The art gallery houses the 2nd largest collection of paintings by the iconic William McTaggart and Samuel Peploe (a key Scottish Colourist painter) in the world, second only to the National Galleries of Scotland. Featured on the ground floor is an award-winning exhibition covering Kirkcaldy’s history, ranging from 300 million ago to the modern day!

Charity Garden Opening - Glassmount House

8 - 21 August, 2022
Densely planted walled garden with surrounding woodland. An A-listed sun dial, Mackenzie & Moncur greenhouse and historical doocot are complemented by a number of newer structures. Daffodils are followed by a mass of candelabra and cowslip primula, meconopsis and Cardiocrinum giganteum. Hedges and topiary form backdrops for an abundance of bulbs, clematis, rambling roses and perennials, creating interest through the summer into September. The garden is now extending beyond the walls, with new areas of naturalistic planting blending the boundary between the surrounding fields and the woodland. This is a fundraising event for the open garden charity Scotland’s Gardens Scheme which raises money for hundreds of local charities.

Jack Vettriano: The Early Years

8 - 21 August, 2022
The exhibition, co-curated with the artist, is a celebration of his extraordinary career and will bring together works he painted in his 20s until he moved to London in 2000. Uncertainty over when social distancing and travel restrictions will be lifted had meant we had to postpone this highly-anticipated show until next year so we could give visitors the great experience we had planned. It will now take place from 17 June to 23 October, 2022. The exhibition has generated worldwide interest as it will feature early paintings by Vettriano, including nearly a dozen produced before he decided to become a full-time artist and are signed Jack Hoggan, his birth name.
