Have you ever wanted to get up close and personal with our close relative, primate friends? Well then, we’ve got the perfect activity for your stack! Twycross Zoo is the place to go, being the only zoo in the UK which is home to all four great apes, as well as over 100 other species of animals waiting to be discovered!

Which zoo has the most monkeys?

Twycross zoo in Leicestershire is home to the biggest collection of monkeys and apes in the western world, known as the "World Primate Centre"! The zoo is less than an hours drive from Leicester city centre.

Twycross zoo comes from humble beginnings, when almost 60 years ago, two best friends started with two chimpanzees and evolved their care into one of the world’s most renowned care centres. Set in over 100 acres of outdoor space, explore and admire over 500 animals including some of the world’s most endangered species here, such as the UK’s only pair of bonobos! Animals of all different shapes and sizes roam the zoo, from Rhinos, penguins giraffes and the cheeky chimpanzees! Come face-to-face with the iconic tiger in their multi-million pound conservation space – walk under the tunnel to see if one of the big cats walk over your head!

There are plenty of ways to explore the zoo. Listen and learn about all kinds of animals from their expert rangers in the presentations, or experience the zoo under the guidance of one of their guides. Take the little ones to the outdoor and soft play areas, or enjoy a hot drink and some tasty food from one of their food outlets. The Himalaya Centre is the perfect place to relax during your visit – get something to commemorate your visit from the gift shop, or even watch the beautiful snow leopard with their view from the restaurant!
