Cross-country and Downhill Skiing in Tungudalur

For beautiful Icelandic skiing don’t look further than the ski area in Tungudalur. A fairly modest resort in size that more than makes up for it in quality and location. The slopes are only a few minutes from the centre of Ísafjörður so travel in the morning is no issue. The downhill section has 3 lifts with slopes varying from true beginner to experienced in difficulty. Snowboarders are not left out either as the regular set up an area with springboards and slides to practice your tricks!

Where can I go skiing in the Westfjords?

The Two Valleys is a hidden gem of a ski area. With beautiful views and surroundings, it's a stunning place to downhill or cross-country ski!

They also have many tracks for cross-country skiing. Depending on date and weather, their rings range from 1 to 12.5km so if you’ve ever thought of giving it a go there is nowhere better!

Some cross-country skiing tips

  • If you’ve never been cross-country skiing then it’s strongly advised to go with an instructor so you can get to grips with the techniques and the trails
  • Make sure you when you rent skis that they are either waxless skis or ones that have been waxed.
  • Don’t be afraid to try a few different boots to make sure they’re comfortable as you’ll be spending a lot of time in them!
