Visit this historic castle in the heart of Limerick City and learn all about its turbulent past! One of the best-preserved Norman castles, the site of King John’s Castle has been occupied for over 1000 years, with the Vikings making some very early settlements there. This was followed by a pre-norman fortification before the Castle was finally constructed between 1200 and 1212. Between 2011 and 2013, the castle underwent a massive redevelopment, with €5.7 million spent to improve the visitor facilities of the castle.
