Kiss the Blarney Stone in County Cork

Visit the amazing Blarney Castle and kiss the Blarney Stone to receive the gift of eloquence! Originally dating back to around 1200, the castle was originally a timber house that was replaced by a stone fortification 10 years later. It was destroyed in 1446 but quickly repaired by Cormac Láidir MacCarthy. If the legends are to be believed, the Blarney Stone was given to McCarthy by Robert the Bruce, as gratitude for McCarthy’s aid during the Battle of Bannockburn in 1314. The stone is supposedly half of the Stone of Destiny, which was used for centuries to crown the Kings of Scotland. At Blarney Castle, you will have the opportunity to climb battlements and kiss the stone!
