If you love history, then head to The Copper Mine Museum in Allihies. Allihies is based in West Cork and has a beautiful lively village. It sits between the Atlantic coast and a rocky mountain.
Head through the fields and enter the Copper Mine Museum at the foot of the village. You will learn all about the mining industry and how it changed everything in Allihies for the better. In 1812 copper was discovered in Allihies and the mining enterprise started. Learn the many different extraordinary stories of the engineering and see the engine houses up close. You will be able to view the magnificent steam engine pumping out water and driving winding gears. Need a break then head to the Copper Café, you can sit in or outdoors and enjoy delicious seafood or just a coffee there is something for everyone!
