Buy Irish woolens in their Gift shop and stock up on knitting wool and crafts, before being tempted by homemade cakes in Killary Café and wandering down the Art Corridor. For over 25 years, their family business has been welcoming Individuals, families, educational and tour groups. Bringing people together to enjoy daily wool craft demonstrations.

What are the opening times?

The museum is open weekdays, Mondays through to Fridays, from 10:00 to 17:00. Unfortunately, the museum is closed at weekends, Saturdays and Sundays.

At their woolcraft demonstrations you are given an insight into the importance of sheep and wool in Connemara’s past. Learn the history of the local woollen industry and see the process of how sheep’s fleece is made into cloth through displays and demonstrations. Sheep’s wool is made into yarn and cloth at their carding, spinning and weaving demonstrations. These demonstrations are practiced on wheels and looms from the turn of the last century. Try spinning for yourself and your family. Allow children to discover what their role would have been in the 1900s through hands-on experience. Technology has made hand looms and spinning wheels redundant unfortunately. However, at the Sheep and Wool Centre they are brought back to life, with a celebration of truly handcrafted produce. Their wool craft demonstration are at set time throughout the day. Please see their website for online bookings page for times and availability.
