Self Guided Tours at Kilkenny Castle

Calling all history lovers! Do you want to experience one of the most fascinating castles on the island of Ireland. If so, make sure to visit Kilkenny Castle on your next day out in the Leinster area! The castle has a remarkable history, and, dates back to the Norman invasion of Ireland. Although, it has been renovated and rebuilt in parts, to suit different periods, across its 800 years of existence.

Where can I find Kilkenny Castle?

The castle is located in Kilkenny city centre, along the River Nore, it also sits next to The Parade and High Street.

Visitors can also visit the fantastic parklands and gardens located on the castle grounds, which is filled with wildlife and 50 acres of greenery. Along with this, there are tearooms, playgrounds, a man made lake, and a rose garden. There is currently a 13 month exhibition at the castle, called The Ros Tapestry, which tells ancient stories of the area in thread. The facility provides guided tours, which can be booked via email or by calling the castle. Although, due to certain restrictions, the tours can take place with no more than pods of 6 people.
