Explore the coastline from the northern end of Milford Beach to the southern end of Takapuna Beach, taking in the area’s rock pools, beaches and scenery. The route takes you along the shoreline, with uninterrupted views of the Hauraki Gulf and Rangitoto Island, Auckland’s most recent volcanic cone. There are a number of good swimming beaches along the way, from secluded Thorne Bay to the pōhutukawa-lined Takapuna Beach. See if you can spot the local marine life in the volcanic rock pools and fossils of ancient forests preserved by lava flows.

Between Milford Beach and Takapuna Beach, the route crosses private property. Owners have permitted this. Please respect the environment and the privacy of local residents, and do not trespass on private property outside the route. The Milford-Takapuna walk is best at low tide as the rocks are exposed and the path is dry.
