Planning a trip to New Zealand? Happen to be a Lord of the Rings/Hobbit fan? Well, we’ve got the perfect activity for your stack! Take an exclusive helicopter flight and hiking tour over the iconic Misty Mountains over and through Mt Aspiring, following in the footsteps of Bilbo and company as seen in the Hobbit trilogy… You’re going on an adventure!

Where are the Misty Mountains?

The Misty Mountains was filmed on Mount Aspiring National Parks in the Southern Alps of New Zealand. Follow in the footsteps of Bilbo, Gandalf and crew with this spectacular helicopter and hiking tour of the famous filming locations.

Prepare to get an eagle’s eye view over some of Middle Earth’s most iconic spots… Fly the ‘Eagles Path’ where Bilbo, Gandalf and the Dwarves were rescued, landing on Fog Peak where you’ll get to admire stunning views of Fog Peak, several filming locations that featured in Lord of the Rings, and of course the breath-taking southern alps. Strap in and make your way to Treble Cone, where you can traverse the Misty Mountains, walking the very path that your favourite legendary characters took in a two hour trek back down to Wanaka. You’ll see a variety of beautiful landscapes, from towering rock pillars, glaciers to massive canyons.

You don’t need to be a Tolkien fan to take this tour – nature lovers will also be in their element, as you’ll see a plethora of wild flora and wildlife. See if you can spot the New Zealand falcon rocketing over your head, or snap a picture of the Kea, a curious and charming mountain parrot. Your friendly guides know the area like the back of their hand and will be there to tell you everything you need to know. Conscious of Wanaka’s spectacular environment, you’ll be happy to know your trip will be eco friendly, leaving nothing but footprints!
