Why should I go on a wildlife tour with Western Isles Wildlife?

Western Isles Wildlife is one of the few bird and wildlife tour companies that are based in the Outer Hebrides. With experience in operating trips since 2007 and with some of the most accurate and up-to-date information on local wildlife you can find, this company provides an excellent service to those looking to discover the local wildlife!

Day tours from the Isle of Skye are available on Sundays between the start of May and the 8th of September. Visitors can catch a ferry from Uig at 9.30 am and arrive in Lochmaddy by 11 am. The tour guide will then pick up the visitors from the ferry dock and take them on a tour of Uist before dropping them back off where they were picked up in time to catch the ferry back to Skye.

Up until December 2020, there have been over 400 bird species recorded in the Outer Hebrides compared with the UK’s total of 618, meaning the birdlife in the area is bursting with variation! Very few land mammals make it across to the Outer Hebrides and a lot of species are common on the mainland, such as Foxes, Badgers, Stoats, and weasels, but interestingly none of them lives on the islands at all! What the islands may lack in land species, they make up for with a diverse range of marine mammals!
