Aberdeen Art Gallery was opened in 1883 and was extended in the 1920s. It brings together an art collection that spans over 700 years.  With 19th-century French art, including works by Monet and Renoir, Scottish art from the 19th and 20th centuries, English art from the early 20th century, and international artwork from the 21st century, Aberdeen Art Gallery raises the profile of Aberdeen and north east of Scotland as a creative, industrial and artistic centre. From Brueghel to Borland and Landseer to Lambie, there is a lot to explore.

How many collections are there and where is a good place to start at the Aberdeen Art Gallery

There are 18 collections each with its own story to tell. The ground-floor Sculpture Court is a good place to start!

The gallery underwent a major 4-year redevelopment between 2015 and 2019.  Since then the gallery has won multiple awards, including the Andrew Doolan Best Building in Scotland Award in 2021.

Aberdeen’s long association with the sea is represented in the maritime history collection, from items traded in the 14th century to the modern service industries supporting the extraction of oil.
