The Great Tapestry of Scotland in the Scottish Borders

Interested in discovering over 420 million years of Scottish history and culture? The Great Tapestry of Scotland is the place for you! The brand new Tapestry building was opened publicly in August 2021 and consists of a discovery centre and 2 galleries with over 160 panels of tapestry created by an army of stitchers from all across Scotland.

The Great Tapestry of Scotland was a project that was first suggested by author Alexander McCall Smith. He was inspired by a trip to the Prestonpans Tapestry and decided to start to bring his vision to life by gathering a team of artists and designers from across the country. Some famous stories the Tapestry has to offer, include the likes of the Battle of Bannockburn and Sir Walter Scott.

Tickets for the Tapestry can be booked online on their website as well as information about opening times and other activities that may be on around the time of your visit!

• Open Thursday to Monday from 26th August onwards (Opening times change seasonally)
• Last admission is 1 hour before closing time
• No pets allowed except guide assistance dogs
• Please do not touch the exhibitions or take any flash photography
