Wanting to get out of the city? Then you’re in the right place – Dalkeith Country park is the perfect activity for your stack! From adventure parks to relaxing nature trails, thrilling outdoor activities to fantastic shopping centres, they have something for everyone and all tastes!

Where can I find Dalkeith Country Park?

If you're travelling by car, the park entrance is less than five minutes from Edinburgh City By-pass. The main vehicle entrance is King’s Gate, a left turn shortly after Sheriffhall Roundabout on the A6106 (£3 parking fee applies). If travelling by bus, take the 3, 33 or 49 to Dalkeith High Street and walk a further 5-10 minutes.

Dalkeith country park has been traced back to Roman times and the woodland area is hundreds of years old, with some trees being over 900 years old! The country park is over 1,000 acres, so there is plenty of room to explore and experience their extensive range of things to do. It’s the perfect place to enjoy a family day out – let the kids run wild at the Fort Douglas adventure park, home to a sky maze, zip wires, climbing walls and more, or just enjoy a pleasant country walk. In the summer months, immerse yourself in nature with their secluded campsite!

If you’re looking for thrills, then look no further – Dalkeith Country Park is one of only three Go Ape locations in Scotland. This spectacular centre boasts eight amazing zip lines spanning across the River Esk, perfect for adrenaline seekers!

If you’d rather adventure by foot, then not to worry – there’s plenty to explore in the park with a range of tranquil walking routes. The woodlands are home to tons of local wildlife, and a haven for nesting birds – keep your eyes peeled for little nest builders! Whether you’re looking for a day-long hike or just a leisurely stroll through the countryside, Dalkeith is the best place to enjoy the great outdoors.

The Restoration Yard is a wonderful place to enjoy the pleasures of shopping and eating, without the noise and chaos of the city – take in the beauty of the countryside while exploring local vendors and eating delicious handmade treats, in their beautifully renovated 18th-century stables.
