An Iodhlann Historical Centre on the Isle of Tiree

A visit to the stunning Isle of Tiree is not complete without a trip to the historical centre, also known as An Iodhlann (pronounced ‘an-ee-lun’), which is Gaelic for ‘stackyard’, a place where the harvest is stored. They started their collection in 1995, with it quickly expanded into a fully-fledged exhibition, with over 12,000 items collectively! Their permanent exhibition is an extensive history of the Isle of Tiree, mentioning all the events that made Tiree what it is today. These range greatly, from historical events such as WW2 and Viking raids to cultural and geological topics, like religion, the proximity to the sea, and the wild weather. It’s a must-see for any tourist looking to enjoy the sights of Tiree.
