Longhope Lifeboat Museum on Orkney

Run by the local community, The Longhope Lifeboat Museum offers visitors the chance to learn about the fascinating maritime history of Orkney, as well as some insight into the tragedy that struck the area in 1969. Eight lifeguards sadly lost their lives during a rescue operation in the Pentland Firth – this unique museum highlights the story of these individuals. There’s also some interesting vintage lifeboats to see, including ‘Thomas McCunn’, the island’s former lifeboat from 1932.

Where can I find the Longhope Longboat Museum?

It’s on the coast of Brims, in the South Walls area of Orkney.
