Castell Coch in Tongwynlais

Come and see the fairytale castle of your dreams!

Tucked away between the historical beach trees of Forest Fawr is Castell Coch or the ‘Red Castle’. It was built by architect William Burges for the third Marquess of Bute over 700 years ago. The grandeur and spectacle of this castle’s exterior are like something from a fantasy novel – just wait until you see what’s inside! The interiors are dripping in luxury and opulence, a key feature of the High Victorian era. At its heart, it still shows signs of its roots as a 13th-century castle (owned by Marcher lord Gilbert de Clare), but since then has been draped in fine furnishings and artwork. Well worth a trip to this vision of high fantasy!
