Are you a history buff? Looking for a family day out in Wales? Then we have the perfect activity for your stack. Underground in Corris Wales lies centuries of the secret history that’s waiting to be discovered – get kitted up, go underground and explore this abandoned slate mine to experience some of Wales’ most interesting history.
The old Braich Goch Mine first opened in 1836 and is in Corris Craft Centre, also home to the famous King Arthur’s Labyrinth (which you’ll get a great view of with this tour!). Guided by experts in the field, stories of the mines workers will unfold right in front of you, as you find the machinery and tools for one of the biggest slate mines in Wales at the time, as well the artefacts they left behind that bring their stories to life.
You can choose from 2 adventures. The Mini Mine Explorer, a 1-hour exploration of the mines to get a taste of what the main journey is like, is a great choice for a trip with the kids. The Maxi Mine Explorer trip takes you even further into the mines, where if you’re feeling adventurous, you can explore some of the deepest parts of the mine hand-dug in the 1800s with the climbing ropes and ladders. You could get together with family and friends with the Exclusive Mine Expedition, where you’ll take on new challenges and venture into newly discovered parts of the mine only visited on this trip.
