Wellington is the capital of New Zealand – and the capital of filmmaking! The city is home to world-class film production studios and talented people that have created cutting-edge films and special effects. In this tour, you’ll learn about the ins and outs of the local film industry, made famous by Peter Jackson’s famous fantasy trilogies and Avatar, the best-selling film in history.

You’ll head up to Mount Victoria to get beautiful views over the city and southern coast, where Frodo and his friends left the Shire and fled from the ringwraiths in the famous “Get off the road!” scene. You’ll explore Miramar, home to the film industry with famous studios like Park Road Production and Stone Street Studios, that worked on films like The Last Samurai and The Adventures of Tintin. You’ll immerse yourself in the crystal clear rivers and lush rainforests Kaitoke national park, the filming location for Rivendell, the home of the elves.

Included is a visit to Weta Cave to admire classic film memorabilia, or you can add a tour of the famous Weta Workshop to your experience, where you’ll relive movie magic and see the process behind the creation of film effects and props. Along the way, you’ll be shown exclusive behind-the-scenes clips and documentaries. This tour is a fantastic way to explore New Zealand’s capital city whether you’re a Lord of the Rings fan or not!
