The Museum of Free Derry was made to remember and understand the city’s local history and its contribution to the groundbreaking civil rights struggle which erupted in Derry in the mid-1960s and culminated in the massacre on Bloody Sunday.

Why should I go to the Museum of Free Derry Near Londonderry?

This museum is based on the story of how the people of Derry managed to; fight off an oppressive government, acquire civil rights and descent into conflict as well as highlight how awful "Bloody Sunday" was right in the bloody Sunday zone!

Bloody Sunday was a massacre on 30 January 1972 in the Bogside area of Derry, Northern Ireland, when British soldiers shot 26 unarmed civilians during a protest march against internment without trial. After the tragedy, the families of the victims help lead a new story in the chapter on human rights.
