Northern Lights Snowmobile Tour in Iceland

Have you ever wanted to go on a snowmobile adventure? Have you ever wanted to see the Northern lights? Well, this one is just for you! Join Geo travel for a once in a lifetime adventure out into the arctic night! This is a snowmobiling tour, however, unlike normal snowmobiling tours, you travel in the dark. Snowmobiling at night is actually very easy due to the good lights on the snowmobile. In fact, in some conditions, it is even more favourable to drive during darkness to avoid “snow blindness”.  During the tour, you will travel through various landscapes of the Mývatn nature reserve. Frozen wetlands, birch forests (woodlands/scrubs). You’ll drive out away from any light pollution, off the beaten track, turn of the snowmobiles and enjoy the darkness and, if you are lucky, you might just catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights!

What do I need to bring with me?

Make sure you bring good shoes for cold weather. Make sure to wrap up warm as it can get extremely cold! Mittens and a hat are recommended! Sunglasses are a good idea too, as there can be a bit of a glare while driving. Also, don´t forget your camera!

In Mývatn, snowmobiling is the favourite way of travelling through rough arctic conditions. The guides grew up riding snowmobiles on their farms, so they know what they’re doing. For them, Snowmobiling is a part of their lifestyle. They love to share their passion for snowmobiling and allow their guests to experience the incredible freedom that a snowmobile provides. When you meet your guide, they will help you find helmets and overalls of your size. We go over all the safety features you need to keep in mind and show you all the tricks about driving and operating a snowmobile. Just before we go, your guide will go over the route and how we drive in a single formation at a safe speed.

Your guide will then take you on a one-hour snowmobile tour with a few stops to admire the landscape and hopefully see Northern lights. Driving a snowmobile through a vast landscape of volcanoes and the contrast between the black lava and white snow is an experience of a lifetime.
