Are you creative and looking to get crafty? Stained glass is an amazing craft, colourful, decorative and adaptable to many different forms. This course at Le Breton Traditional is student-led, encouraging you to pursue the area of your interest.

The course includes both “Tiffany” copper foiling and leaded styles. There is also the provision on some dates for doing kiln-fired glass painting, silver staining and enamelling. You can create panels, lamps, clocks, mirrors, and hanging pieces or set the glass into a display stand. Bring your own ideas! You can contact me to discuss by email the practicality of attempting a particular piece before the class.

Where can I learn to make stained glass in Devon?

There are two types of classes at Le Breton Traditional - a Beginners Class (starting from scratch with induction in all the different techniques) OR a Beginners and Returners Class (for beginners and returning students/those who have done stained glass before).

Materials for a piece around A4 size and tools are provided (additional charge may be made for larger projects, or special materials but will be discussed fully in advance).

Please bring your own Stanley knife and an apron if you prefer your own, wear warm “workshop” clothes, and no fluffy jumpers (tend to catch fragments). No open-toed sandals or shoes. If you already have tools from doing glass classes previously please mark them in some way before bringing them. It can be a good idea to bring a board or something to take your piece home on/in. Also, a toolbox/plastic box/large Tupperware box is a good idea to keep any glass pieces safe if you are planning to attend a number of classes.

Children over the age of 9-16yrs can attend with an adult at £45. Due to the care needed when handling lead (particularly for children), I have specific arrangements and procedures in place to ensure full safety at all times.

  • One day workshop is £105 per person
  • The minimum participation age is 9 years old
  • Tea and coffee are provided
  • There are tea making facilities and toilets
  • Bring your own packed lunch
  • Not suitable for pregnant women or for students who are not capable of following the safety and instruction guide.
