The Barn Arts Venue near Aberdeen

While largely being known for it’s plentiful nature reserves and towering mountain ranges, Aberdeenshire is also home to a rich history and culture. Tucked away in the village of Banchory is the Barn, a charming barn-turn-art venue host to a fantastic programme of events from performance and cinema, visual arts, talks, community projects and more, the only venue of it’s kind in all of Aberdeenshire!

What can I do indoors in Aberdeenshire?

Just 30 minutes from Aberdeen, the Barn hosts a fantastic programme of indoor events including films, performances, visual arts and more.

The Barn is home to a variety of facilities: a great theatre with a 350 seat capacity, hosting year-round performances; a contemporary art gallery and workshop space, showcasing artists work from near and far, sometimes linked with performances being shown at the time; as well as the wild garden area, a haven for wildlife and the perfect place for some peace and contemplation or a relaxed stroll to get escape a busy life. Buchanan food, an organic bistro, is also located on site, where you can sit with a coffee and enjoy some delicious, locally sourced and produced food to cap off your visit. With something for everyone at the Barn, you’ll be captivated by it’s warm and creative atmosphere!

  • The Barn is a 30 minute drive from Aberdeen, between Crathes Castle and Banchory.
  • Keep an eye on the what’s on page for upcoming events. Tickets can be purchased online or by contacting their box office.
  • Gallery is open Tuesday – Saturday 12 – 4pm and at other times by appointment. Entry to the Gallery is FREE.
  • Café is open Wednesday – Sunday 10 am – 4 pm.
