The James Connolly Visitor Centre in Belfast

Located only yards from where Connolly lived on the Falls Road, Áras Uí Chonghaile is a modern, inspirational, visitor centre epitomising the character and fabric of the Falls Road. It is a place of welcome for people with all politics and of none. James Connolly was a man of formidable ideas and remarkable vision.

Who was James Connolly?

James Connolly was born in Edinburgh in 1868, but he would go on to become a hugely important figure in the development on modern Ireland. He would be executed by firing squad in 1916 after the Easter Rising.

Over 100 years after he was executed, his values, his ideals and the example he gave in life are as inspiring and relevant as ever. The Centre’s mission is to ensure that a new generation of Irish citizens and those who visit us from across the world are introduced to James Connolly and his ideas. The first floor of Áras Uí Chonghaile boasts a unique and profound collection of writings by and about James Connolly. The library offers a quiet, reflective and unique space for researchers, academics and those who seek to grow and develop their understanding of James Connolly, a man of remarkable ideas and writings.
