Rumoured to be the birthplace of King Arthur, its mythical significance inspired Richard, Earl of Cornwall to build a castle here in the 13th century – now that’s a dedicated fan! Visit the gardens inspired by the love story of Tristan and Iseult, with engraved stepping stones telling their story, or make your way across the island to see Gallos, the life-size statue of King Arthur. If you time your visit right you can even explore Merlin’s cave from the beach when the tide is out. How can I get to Tintagel Castle?

The Island is connected to the mainland by their newly built footbridge.

Don’t worry about packing a lunch, the Beach Café is close by and the perfect place to stop for lunch during your visit. Booking in advance is essential, with tickets booked in time slots so they can stop the island and castle from getting overcrowded. With accommodation and plenty to do in this gorgeous coastal town, Tintagel is also a great place for a holiday.
