Cardiff castle has been host to nearly 2000 years of history – Roman and Norman occupation, civil war, Victorian era conversions, all the way up to the destruction of WWII. A ticket for the castle gives you access to a plethora of fascinating history to discover: climb the 50 stone steps of the Norman keep for panoramic views of Cardiff; visit the Castle apartments dating back more than 500 years and admire their intricate wood carvings and stained glass artefacts; go back even further and see the castles Roman fort walls that date back a whole 900 years! For a small fee, you can also upgrade your ticket to delve into the Bute Family in the Victorian Quarters with a fully guided tour.

The Castle is also hosting regular events and exhibitions to enjoy – experience the Black Tower Tales, a legendary medieval story of the 14th century in an immersive re-telling story, or sit back, relax and enjoy a film at their film and music venue that has even been host to bands like Green Day! You can celebrate Christmas in style with one of their Welsh banquets, where you’ll be treated to food, drink and entertainment just as the castle’s nobles would have.

  • An upgrade to a tour ticket will cost – Adult: £4.00, Child: £3.00, Concession: £3.50.
  • If you live or work in Cardiff, you can purchase a ‘castle key’ membership card for £6.50 (under 16’s go free), giving you free access to the castle for 3 years.
  • Opening times are 9 am to 6 pm all week.
  • The museum is a short walk from Cardiff Central and Queen Street stations.
