Visit Teece Museum of Classical Antiques in Christchurch

Come and explore the Teece Museum of Classical Antiquities, where you can see more than three thousand years of human history through an amazing collection of artefacts from Greek, Roman, Egyptian and Near Eastern cultures. Whether you are a student of Classics, have an interest in ancient cultures, or are just looking fun family-friendly activities in Christchurch, there is something here for everyone.

Where is the museum located?

The Teece Museum of Classical Antiquities is located on Level 1 of the UC Arts City Location (Old Chemistry) at 3 Hereford Street, in the historic Christchurch Arts Centre. Access to the Museum is via the door off the Arts Centre South Quadrangle.

The ancient Greeks and Romans came from all walks of life, some barely survived in slavery while others led rich and fulfilling lives. Whether they were at the bottom or the top, the Greeks and Romans formed communities between families, neighbours and armies. These communities shaped people’s identities, cultures and beliefs, just as our own communities shape us today. Marble sculpture, elaborate vases and everyday wares speak of epic myths and stories, the rise and fall of empires, family life and glory in sport and war – all of which were important aspects of life in ancient times.

Access to the museum is completely free!
