Where to go in Inverness?

Head down to Fort George, one of the top attractions in Inverness, to see one of Scotland's most important pieces of history

Built for the defence of King George II in 1746, and taking 22 years to complete, Fort George’s massive garrison is protected by an imposing 1-mile wall, hosting garrison buildings that are home to one of the best arms collections in the world: cannons, muskets, swords, and pikes. You can also visit the barracks room that recreates the soldiers living conditions throughout the fort’s history. The fort is also home to one of the only two dog cemeteries in Scotland, where you can see the resting place of the canine friends that accompanied soldiers and officers. The location of Fort George on the banks of Moray Firth means you’ll get a great view of Inverness and plenty of wildlife, including a spectacular chance to see dolphins. You can cap off your visit by heading to the gift shop to pick up a souvenir and relax at the café with a coffee and snack.

Fort George offers unmatched insight into military life and an important part of Scottish history and is a must-do for anyone travelling up to the Scottish highlands.
