Visit The Tree Church and Gardens on the North Island

Calling all architecture enthusiasts! Are you looking for something unique to do on your next day off? Or do you just love church architecture and the peaceful aura that it brings? Either way, make sure to visit the famous Tree Church on your next day off! The church is located on three hectares of beautiful gardens which have a fascinating story behind them! During the 1980s and 90s, the site was a tree nursery, run by the Nelson family.

Where can I find The Tree Church?

The gardens are located near the town of Martinborough in the North Island, which can be reached from Wellington via regular public transport routes.

Nowadays, the site is a bustling garden, with some of the most fantastic examples of native and international plants. The land was purchased by Barry Cox in 2005, and inspired by his love of church architecture, he began work on developing a church made out of trees! Some of the trees that the building is made from include: Thuja Pyramidalis, Acer Globosum, and Cut Leaf Alder. So, what are you waiting for?
