West Stow Anglo-Saxon Village & Country Park in Suffolk

The West Stow Anglo-Saxon Village is one of the most impressive archaeological sites in the UK. It has been painstakingly recreated to its former past – an Anglo-Saxon settlement that occupied the area somewhere between 450-650 AD. Take a trip back in time as you walk through this piece of history, and see what life was like almost one thousand five hundred years ago. The Museum is home to all the treasures they uncovered on the site, a myriad of authentic ancient Anglo-Saxon jewellery and weapons. There is also the chance to dress up like an Anglo-Saxon warrior, complete with a helmet, armour and sword!

Where can I find West Stow Anglo-Saxon Village and Country Park?

The West Stow Anglo-Saxon Village & Country Park is close to Bury St Edmunds and runs alongside the River Lark and Sailing Lake.

Not a history buff? The site also has over 125 acres of beautifully protected countryside, trails, heath and woodland walks. These open areas, as well as the lake and the river, attract lots of British wildlife, so there are two bird hides and a bird feeding area available to use for the animal enthusiasts among you. The park also has a great adventure playground and a cafe with takeaway options next to the car parking area.
