When travelling through county Laois, make sure to take a stop off at the fantastic Emo Court near Monastrevin! At one point, this fantastic house was the largest in Ireland!
The house was commissioned and built by the Earls of Portarlington, and designed by world-renowned architect, James Gandon. The house has had many notable residents throughout the years, including the likes of former president Mary Robinson, author Benedict Kiely, and Photographer Father Frank Browne. Although, its most important resident was Major Cholmeley Dering Cholmeley-Harrison, who restored the house from dereliction to its former glory in the 1950s. So, History lovers!
