The year-long pilot programme, a collaboration between Liverpool City Region Combined Authority and Liverpool City Council, will see Swedish-based e-scooter startup Voi first introduce roughly 50 of carbon-neutral vehicles to the city for public hiring, with more to come as the experiment progresses.
The e-scooters will be available for hiring via a smartphone app beginning Tuesday, October 6th, and will be located at important locations across the city centre, including shopping and commercial districts, as well as near the University of Liverpool and LJMU campuses.
The vehicle will have a top speed of 10 miles per hour but will be electrically limited to roughly five miles per hour in high-traffic zones.
Initially, the cars will be available to users only between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m., in accordance with national COVID-19 limitations on restaurant and bar hours. Only e-scooters used in the experiment are now permitted in Liverpool, with the usage of private e-scooters being prohibited in the UK.
Voi, Europe’s fastest-growing e-scooter firm with 45 cities in 11 countries, has an exclusive deal to provide scooters for the experiment. The business anticipates that the trial will result in the creation of 50 full-time employees.
