Visit North Mayo Heritage Centre in Mayo

The Mayo history museum at the North Mayo Heritage and Genealogical Centre contains original domestic and farming artifacts from County Mayo. Most of the exhibits have come from local homes, businesses and farms in the area. These include an original horse-drawn trap, a set of carpentry and blacksmith tools and even a traditional poitin still. The Don McLane Library is a unique collection of special interest books and records which is open to the public on request.

How much is admission?

You’re in luck! Nothing at all! Admission to the museum is completely free of charge, however any donation is very much appreciated.

Photographs of the re-constructed traditional cottage at the memorial centre in Battery Park, New York are held at the heritage centre. The cottage belonged to the Slack family from Carradoogan in the parish of Attymass in County Mayo. It ceased to be used  in the 1960s. The Slack family donated the cottage to the memorial centre in “memory of all the Slack family members of previous generations who emigrated to America and fared well there”.
