Why should I visit Northumberlandia?

Northumberlandia is the home of an incredibly unique piece of public art, The Lady of the North, which is set in a whopping 46-acre community nature park that is free to enjoy for all visitors! The park includes over 4 miles of footpaths that circle around The Lady of the North.

As well as the park as a whole is a huge selling point, atop Northumberlandia, fans of big machinery and engineering can look into the Shotton Surface Mine!

The creation of Northumberlandia has been taken on by the Banks Group as part of a restoration effort of the Shotton Surface Mine. The building of the attraction has provided much-needed coal for the UK’s energy generation!

The project as a whole is known as restoration first, by taking donated land from the landowner at Blagdon Estate, just opposite the Mine, the land provides a new area of the landscape for the local community to cherish while the mine is still in operation! Overall the project has amounted to over £3 Million to create this jaw-dropping attraction and was funded by the Banks Group and the Blagdon Estate.

  • Free admission for all visitors to enjoy
  • Open from dusk till dawn every day of the year
  • Visitor Centre and Cafe are open from 10 am to 5 pm
