Where can I go horse riding in New Zealand?

Book your place with High Country Horses based in Glenorchy, at the northern end of the Wakatipu basin. From spectacular snow-capped mountains to ancient beech forests, you'll see all sorts of magnificent scenery in this fantastic horse-riding experience, suitable for all levels.

There’s over 150,000 acres of land for you to ride, from glacial rivers to ancient beech forests, accessible to all from complete beginner to the veterans. With 6 riding experiences to choose from, there’s something to suit everyone’s tastes. The Rees River half day trek is perfect for beginners, as you can trot across the river basin at your own pace to enjoy the stunning scenery – trot along the head of the lake with picturesque mountain views, as your guide fills captivates you with fascinating stories and history of the area. Film buffs will be in their element, as many of the locations you’ll ride through featured in Lord of the Rings!

If you’re versed in the way of the saddle already, then check out their Around the Mountain trek. The only place in the world where you’ll have the chance to ride the full circumference of a mountain, with a variety of beautiful landscapes to boot – lush green forests, glacial fed lakes and high elevations offering amazing views.
