Located on a stunning section of Fife coastline overlooking the Firth of Forth are The Wemyss Caves, home to the largest collection of Pictish carvings anywhere on the planet! Unbelievably, they are over 1,500 years old. The ancient drawings include over 50 inscribed ancient symbols, animal figures and even a crucial depiction of an early medieval boat! The caves also feature several crosses carved by the first Christian missionaries to visit this part of Fife, and on the high cliffs above the caves, you’d find the mystical remains of medieval Macduff Castle, where the Earls of Fife once lived. Guided tours are available every Sunday from April to September – just head to the Visitor Centre and Museum in the village of East Wemyss.
