See if you can unearth an important archeological find at DIG in York. With four special indoor excavation pits, all based on real-life digs in the city and filled with replica Roman, Viking, medieval and Victorian finds, children can grab a trowel and explore how people lived in these times. Your experience will also include a talk from an archaeologist and getting up close to real archaeological artefacts!

What is DIG?

DIG is a hands-on archaeological adventure giving kids the chance to become trainee ‘diggers’ and discover the most exciting artefacts from 2000 years of York’s history!

Archaeologists try to learn as much as they can about people from history by finding and examining the physical remains left behind by these people. Some of the questions a good archeologist might ask are; Who lived in the past? Where did they live? What did they eat? What did they believe? What effect did they have on their environment? See if you can answer any of these questions by picking up your trowel and brush and heading down to DIG today!

Tours last one hour and we strongly advise you pre-book your place. DIG is a great experience for ages 5-12 and there is also a fun play area for under 5s. Open weekdays 1.15pm to 3.30pm and 10am to 3pm on weekends.
