Beautiful Walking Trail through Wilkies Pools

Fancy an adventure through the stunning scenery at Egmont National Park? Walk through the goblin forest to a series of pools that have been scoured by 20 thousand-year-old lava! Grab your trunks and some towels and enjoy a refreshing swim in the pools!

The walking trail starts off by winding through the ‘goblin forest’ and crosses a bridge over the Kapuni Stream to reach the turnoff for the small lava formed Wilkies Pools. These pools were named after 2 brothers who farmed locally in the area. If visiting with a family then you may want to come back this way too, as continuing the loop requires hopping from rock to rock across the Kapuni Stream.

To continue along the loop, return to the signpost and venture past small waterfalls, bubbling springs and the intake weir for the nearby power station. Recross the Kapuni Stream and head back to the visitor centre at the start of the trail.

Make sure to take care when crossing the Kapuni Stream as sometimes the riverbank can become eroded and makes crossing a little more difficult. Seeing as there is no bridge across the stream, it may be impossible to cross after heavy rain.
