Do you love Scottish history? Or Monty Python and the Holy Grail? Well then, Castle Stalker is the place for you! This beautiful castle is surrounded by water and placed on an island just 25 miles north of Oban. The site was believed to be controlled by the MacDougall Clan and was built around 1320. Although, after the clan’s defeat to King Bruce, it changed hands. Its main owners were the Campbells, with their last son being born in the 1700s and remaining in their hands up until 1800.

How do I get to Castle Stalker?

From Oban, travel through the village of Appin until you come across a row of white cottages. Then turn left at a sharp bend and follow the road until you meet the car park.

The castle provides tours to patrons who want to delve deep into the history of the site, with tour guides sparing no detail. After your crossing to the island, you can stop off at the Old Inn for a drink or at the View cafe for some food and to take in all the sights surrounding you. Tours start from £20 for adults and £10 for children under 16. So why not, come on over and have a fantastic day out on one of the most historical Islands in Scotland?
