Easdale Island Folk Museum

The island itself became an increasingly sought-after location with the birth of their Slate industry after the Marble and Slate Quarrying Company was set up there. The museum was founded in 1980 by Chris Nicholson and the first museum curator Jean Adams was herself a direct descendent of one of the famous Slate Quarrying families.

The museum features a unique array of displays, celebrating all different aspects of this famous old industry, which was so prominent in the area for decades. These Displays showcase activities such as Army volunteers, Geology, Ships and even entertainment. This tour will spark the imagination of all guests, and since the museum is run by an educated and hugely dedicated group of volunteers, you can be safe in the knowledge that all your questions will be answered in detail. The museum is open from the 1st of April until the end of September, from 11 am to 4 pm. So why not make the most of your day out and discover a hidden history on Easdale Island?
